Welcome!
Thank you for choosing to visit The Salt Cave at Whole Body Health. We hope you enjoy your time here and would like to offer you some information about the benefits of Halotherapy as well as what you can expect both during and after your visit. Also known as salt therapy, Halotherapy is an amazing healing remedy that has been around for thousands of years. In fact, the first known effects of salt therapy began in a salt mining community in Poland. The townspeople started noticing the salt miners of the Wieliczka Salt Mine did not exhibit the same pulmonary and respiratory ailments as the rest of the townspeople. Since then, research has proven the many benefits salt cave therapy has on the body. Some of the most powerful benefits are how the ions in the salt affect the respiratory system. Himalayan salt contains 84 trace elements and minerals that help naturally regulate the body’s functions. Salt is naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial in nature allowing it to fight infections. Inhaling dry salt air has been shown to break up mucus in the lungs, open the airways and also help to decrease inflammation along the respiratory tract, thus helping conditions like asthma, allergies, bronchitis, sinus congestion and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Researchers also say it can help increase lung capacity. The salt is comprised of negative ions that carry electrons. These are absorbed by the body to help fight the effects of free radicals and are also used by the cells to create energy that helps the body heal.
The Salt Cave at Whole Body Health consists of thousands of blocks of Himalayan salt covering its walls and approximately 8,000 pounds of crushed salt lining its floor. The room is roughly 13 by 18 feet and will hold up to 8 people relaxing in reclining chairs per session. The salt floor is heated, thus pushing the ions and particles into the air to be absorbed and inhaled. In addition, the floor has a grounding effect to allow for the natural energy produced by the Earth (electromagnetic field or EMF) and the salt to be absorbed into the body. It’s basically like plugging in and charging your cell phone’s battery, except in this example, you are the cell phone. This energy is the exact frequency that the body uses to heal, which makes it extremely effective. The salt cave has many uses ranging from individuals just coming to relax and breath in the air to individuals utilizing state of the art natural healing frequency generators specifically programmed to provide the exact energy frequency our biofeedback testing has determined they need to heal. In addition, Whole Tones Music will be played in the cave at frequencies known to promote healing.
What can I expect during the Salt/Halotherapy session?
Upon entering the cave, you will walk onto our sand-like floor and immediately your feet will be immersed in Himalayan salt, which has a massaging effect on your feet when walking on it. You will then choose one of our relaxing chairs and dig your feet down into the salt to enhance the energy absorbing benefits. For those needing foot elevation, we have foot stools to accommodate these needs. We will also provide a blanket to keep you comfortable if needed. You should arrive wearing clean, white socks, otherwise booties will be provided to replace your colored socks.
Once the session starts, a calming, peaceful Whole Tones soundtrack will begin playing and you will feel like you are settling in for a peaceful nap. We suggest you use this time to relax and “Zen out” while breathing in the healing qualities of the surrounding environment. We recommend trying to perform deep breathing exercises to help draw more of the salt particles into the lungs. Talking is not allowed in the cave unless you and your friends are the only ones’ present. After 45-50 minutes, we will open the door and quietly inform you the session is over, and you a have a few minutes to exit the cave.
•A dry throat is sometimes experienced; this is a normal effect of the dry salt ions being released into the air. These ions and salt particles help to break up mucus and have anti-inflammatory properties.
•Extreme relaxation is usually experienced as hormone and blood sugar balancing occurs in such an environment as well.
What can I expect following a Salt/Halotherapy session?
Salt/Halotherapy is based on salt’s natural anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory properties and the negative ions it produces. The rich negative ion effect can be felt in nature in places like the ocean, near waterfalls, and in pine forests, as well as following a lightning storm. Our micro-climate of negative ions and abundant minerals and elements pack the benefits of three days at the ocean into an hour-long session. In this day and age, we are exposed to numerous electromagnetic fields that produce positive ions, such as from TV’s, cell phones, computers, power lines, appliances, etc. Himalayan salt’s production of natural negative ions benefits the Whole Body System and combats the effects of free radicals (positive ions) from our environment. In addition to all of the respiratory benefits discussed above, salt therapy can also have these benefits:
•Improving skin conditions (psoriasis, rashes, eczema, and acne).
•Detoxifying the body by balancing systemic pH
•Improving mineral status of the body
•Reducing muscle cramps by improving minerals and hydration
•Helping to balance blood sugar
•Supporting hormone balance for everyone, no matter what hormonal issues you face
•Helping to balance blood pressure because it provides unrefined, mineral-rich salt in an ionic solution
•Improving sleep by supporting blood sugar and hormone balance
•Acting as a powerful antihistamine
•Supporting weight loss by balancing hormones and improving energy
•Supporting thyroid and adrenal function
•Improving hydration by providing trace minerals
How often should I do Salt/Halotherapy?
A session will last 45 minutes to one hour. For mild to moderate respiratory conditions, 10 to 12 sessions are recommended depending on individual results. For best results the sessions should be 4 to 5 times per week. Since everybody responds differently to therapy, this is provided as an average upon which to gauge your personal experience. After that, once a week for maintenance is recommended.
